Installation is very easy. Simply copy this script to the openPipeline "addons" folder. (If the script gets renamed when you download it, make sure to rename it back to op_SmedgeRender.mel, or openPipeline won't be able to find the command to start it up.) Obviously, you will also need Smedge.
The first time you run this script, it will ask you for the path to where Smedge is installed. Once open, there is a system that can download the list of pools available on your system, so you can select which pool you want to set for the job.
The first time you submit a specific shot or asset, the script will try to guess things like the frame range from your Maya settings. If you override those values, the script remembers the overrides you have set and loads them up by default for the next time you render the file.
Fun additional features:
- Allows you to submit each layer as a separate job to Smedge
- Allows you to set the distribution options (one per engine, one per machine or custom RAM/CPU)
- Allows you to optionally copy the scene to the renderScenes folder in your Maya project before submitting the job and rendering from that location
- Allows you to customize the creator name string for the jobs you submit (which is stored as a maya option for you instead of as part of the submit data for this scene file)
- Allows you to override the error detection settings, including process exit code checking, output text checking, and adding custom ignore strings
- (New!) Allows you to override the render layers that will be submitted without changing the layer renderable flags in the scene file itself.
New version fixes a bug using the "Get Pools" button when Smedge is installed in a folder with a space in the name.
