A tool shows HDR image as a sphere in Maya. To create the viewer, select a locator and choose menu item zTools->Viewer HDR Environment->Attach to Selected. That menu will appear as soon as the plugin is loaded. There are also reload and load another options. Rotate the locator can change the orientation of sphere. Exposure controls brightness of the image.
The plugin is based on Cg, so you need Cg DLLs in your system PATH before you can load it.
If the sphere does not show up after create or reload the scene, try reload menu.
How to install:
Install Cg Copy .mll to maya/bin/plug-ins Copy .mel to maya/scripts/others Reload Maya, load .mll in plug-in manager

Fixed black-render bug on ATI GPU. Use GL_TEXTURE_RECTANGLE_ARB instead of GL_TEXTURE_RECTANGLE_NV
For programers: current version has output attribute to dump Spherical Harmonics Coefficients for HDR environment light souce as a 16-elemented MVectorArray. You can read the Coefficients to do real-time SH lighting, if you know how to:)
