To use make sure it is in your correct folder.

\Documents\maya\2018\prefs\scripts

and use this line inside the script editor

source "cometRename-v1.2-.mel"; cometRename();

The problem is the script was renamed with the -1.2- and the instructions were not updated.

Not sure what people are on about. Still works great in Maya 2017 for me. Just source the script and run the command "cometRename".
