The (basic) Phong illumination model is realized by a script which drives the "outColor" parameter
of a surface shader node. This is like a RenderMan shader! ;-) I hope this example helps to understand two things:
- The basic phong model is NOT hard to implement.
- It is possible to write almost any kind of shader with MEL. And it's not that slow!
