Installing the Script

Place the mel file in your scripts folder.
C:\Users\Admin\Documents\maya\2012-x64\scriptsRestart Maya.

Running the Script

Type SpeedPorter()
in the mel command line to run the script.
Any selected objects will be added to thelist by default.

Mode Select

At the top of the window is a switch betweenimport and export mode.
Work List

The large list contains all objects to be exported
or imported, you can add and remove objects from
the list as well as removing objects selected in
the scene from the list. The "Check All" button will
remove non-existing objects as well as namespaces.

Import Options

Groups: Will group the imported items.
Rename all: Will rename all nodes, not just clashing
nodes.
Ignore version: Will attempt to import files from
versions not officially supported, data loss may be
present.
Remove duplicate networks: Will remove imported
networks if the same network is already present in
the scene.Use namespace: Will create a namespace from the
file name.
Namespace from filename: Turn off to specify a
custom namespace.
Prefix: If Namespace is turned off, a prefix can be
used instead. If this is blank, the files will be added
without prefix or namespace.
Preserve references: Will preserve references instead
of creating copies.
Reference depth: Specify how deep a reference is
allowed to be to stay a reference.

Export Options

Most export options are specific to .obj files and
simply turns on or off what will be included in the
export.Preserve references: Will preserve references instead
of creating copies.Prefix/Suffix: Can be used to add extra text to all the
filenames.
Path: The directory to export to.

Export / Import

When you click the "Export" or "Import" button, each
object or file in the list will be exported as a seperate
.obj or .fbx file, or imported into the scene with the
same name as the original.

FBX Files

Namespaces and prefixes on import will not work with
.fbx files, so make sure the files have different names
before importing.

Other File Formats

Speed Porter only supports .obj and .fbx files.

Known Issues

Removing namespaces will often add to the numeric
suffix, resulting in namespace:myMesh becoming
myMesh1 or namespace:myMesh4 becoming myMesh5.

When importing .fbx files with the same name as an
object already in the scene, that object will move to
the position of the imported object instead of importing
the new object.

Importing .obj files with the same name as an object
already in the scene will increase the numeric suffix of
the new object.

Import is not undoable, however if the import was done
with no prefix or namespace selected it is possible to
undo back to the objects having the TrSeTempNamespace.

Recommended Workflow

Create a "Quick Select Set" of all items to be exported,
so when you use "Check All" you can quickly replace faulty
objects via the set.

To avoid the problem with namespace removal leaving a
numeric suffix, try importing your files without a
namespace or a prefix. If this does not work, try importing
into a new scene.
