This procedure presents a small UI which lists the nodes present in your maya.rayhosts file (in user preferences directory). Switch the checkboxes to activate/deactivate nodes, and hit Commit to save the file. It honors the state of each node by looking for a # (comment) for each line, and deactivates nodes by adding a # to the beginning of the line when the checkbox is inactive.
It should be safe, but I am not responsible or liable for any issues that arise from its use. You gotta say it. =) If you need the UI to be taller (I have few satellite nodes, so I made it accordingly small), you can tweak the -h value in line 22:
