Feature Request

Maya 2016 math node support for faster rig performance

Status:pending

Maya 2016 supports some new math nodes that dramatically speed up playback performance to allow for some deformation calculations to be calculated on the GPU. I don't know how much of a overhaul this would entail for rapid rig but it would be a huge performance boost. Here's a video overviewing the new feature: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKC7A9bbUuk

The new nodes are mainly shading nodes which would not be of much use to Rapid Rig. Rapid Rig relies heavily on multiply divide's, condition's, and blend color's mainly and these are very quick to calculate. The video you posted mainly talks about the GPU improvements and discusses in particular how expressions can be slow. Rapid Rig uses no expressions. If you take advantage of some of the parallelization and GPU features, you should see similar improvements in Rapid Rig. -Dustin
