This MEL makes total weight of each smooth skinned point to be 1. validation : maya2013 x64, maya2014 x64 If you have a problem around normalization, especially post to interactive, this MEL will be helpful for you.
*caution* This MEL is very slow. ex...my case, 200 thousand vertexes and 80 skinClusters, -> about 30 second to finish.
Background: I have encountered a bag around the weight normalization. After painting weight in the post normalize mode, I changed to interactive normalize mode and run "Edit Smooth Skin > Normalize Weights". Then, some points behaved mysteriously. I traced that the default normalize function takes a miscalculate around the specific joint in some cases. But, I can't understand why it occured. So, I made it. Have you ever encountered this problem? It may help you.
