I wrote this after screwing up countless renders by forgetting to turn off my image planes before rendering. This script just looks for any image planes in your scene and sets their display type to "None."

Starting with v 0.2.0, there are now two processes: killImagePlanes() and restoreImagePlanes(). Source hf_imagePlanes in your userSetup.mel, then use the procedures in your pre- and post-render MEL in your render globals to automate the process.

I've only tested this under Windows using Maya 8.5 but it should work for most versions under any OS.
