This script is a workaround for a Maya 6.0 hair system caching bug. Put this in your scripts directory, select your hairSystems(before you cache) and type "compactHairSystem".
The caching problem typically occurs if hairs have been deleted when working on the hair system. This results in sparce input/output arrays in the hair system connections to follicles. This script removes any gaps in the arrays, allowing caching to work.
