Its a good example allright but leaves things to be desired, filtering for one. Anyway this can be done in MR with a ramp of sorts, but it leaves even more to be desired. Anyway mr does not usnerstand all maya nodes and expression nodes are one of those
But this is actualy so common a shader thing that someono should publish and maintain. its not realy a hard thing to do.
