Done for a compositing challenge in the Danish 3D community at 3dmaxer.dk. We had a week to complete, and in the voting, this entry won.
We were given a photo (look further down the page) to use as a plate to put anything we wanted into. My eyes caught the water hose and a cactus that looked human in the background, and from there the idea of a thirsty cactus desperate to get water developed.
I rendered out different passes from Blender, and composited and retouched a bit in Photoshop. Before putting the 3D in, I had retouched the original photo, removing all flowers and giving the whole thing a more worn out appearence to fit the mood better.

very cool idea. I think the hose looks a little flat (not 3D enough) where it leaves the ground and goes up to his hand. Also, the hose shadow seems to be off. Where the hose angles up from the ground, the shadow should follow that, but in your picture, the hose shadow angles up differently (further away from that angle), or so it seems.
