This was a personal project I did to experiment with normal maps and HDRI lighting.
The low poly meshes were built and unwrapped in Maya 8, and the hi res were constructed in Max 9 using NURMS.
Normal maps were baked out in Xnormal, and final rendering of the low poly meshes was completed in Max using Mental Ray and tweaked Arch and Design shaders.
DOF and image exposure correction was handled in photoshop.79 Views

It was originally created for the monthly competition of Cg Tantra - "Superhero gone bad" and has received the “Special Jury Mention” therein. Much learnt and time for experience-sharing and of course, the next challenge!

Bonzai Editor's Pick
I used Pawel Olas LW plugin "TreesDesigner" (http:www.polas.net) to model the basic tree, which had to undergo serious tweaking after that ;-)
The whole scene is lit by an HDRI plus only 1 distant light.52833 Views

This image is based on a sculpture that has been an inspiration to me for many years, there were a number of reasons why I wanted to re-create this work. One is the challenge of the forms and understanding more about this sculpture and Futursim as an art movement.
In 1913 the work was made in plaster, only being cast in Bronze in the 1930's and 1940's long after the artists death.
It is hard to find images of the orginal in white/plaster. I've added a similar white coloured version for this reason, as it was closer to the orginal it may be of interest.
