Sorry for the delay- I did not have access to this version of Maya until recently and life issues have also kept me from updating any personal projects. I checked the file and it opened fine, but gave me an error about the mental ray plugin (Error: mayatomr plugin not found, etc.) because mental ray is not included by default in 2016 and has to be downloaded separately. Other than that error, the file opens fine on my copy of 2016. Have you tried setting "Ignore version" in the Maya preferences (Settings-> Files/Projects)? That may be causing the trouble for you if not. This was created in an older version of Maya and I'm hesitant to save it in 2016 because if I did it might not be backwards compatible for others to use, whereas right now the file is compatible with Maya 2014 onward.
