Hmm. Without seeing your file, I can't be sure what the problem is, as I've never experienced this myself.

Some things to look into are:
    1. Is this texture showing when you inspect the material in the Attribute Editor or Hypershader?
    2. Are you in a display mode that would ensure the texture is visible? (6)
    3. Is there lighting in your scene and are you viewing it?
    4. Which Viewport version are you in? Would switching to Viewport 2.0, or one of the Legacy modes make the texture visible?
    5. You may need to recreate the material (or materials) and reapply the texture file.

In general, I'm tempted to say this is a problem with Maya, as it renders correctly. Most peope that have this problem find that creating a new material, or exporting the object fixes the problem, and that it may be related to the materialInfo node. Please let me know if this helps! If it doesn't, maybe we can discuss you sharing your files with me.
