May be your current frame is on, try to turn off and create one more time. Though your current frame is on, it won't effect anything. I quickly turned on all the other HUDs in Maya, it worked fine for me, here is link of screen shot https://lh4.ggpht.com/_s5IJsB87qiQ/S4JUPjxj90I/AAAAAAAAAgY/As79ofvIAnA/s640/HeadsUpDisplay_working_with_All_Other_HUDS.jpg apart from this, what are other HUDs present in your scene, it will be helpfull if you arrange screen shot .
