Very nice try but unfortunately its not the kind of integration youd need. Whet one WOULD need is to convert the entire api functionality into a library python could use.
Se trying to substitute mel in pyython is a bit pointless but trying to convert the API to python isnt.
Lutz has taken some nice first steps into offering a Maya-Python integration that the public can use and test. I'm looking forward to Lutz' implementation growing in it's capabilities including some Maya API support, hopefully, someday.
